A New Look and a New Card

So do you like my new look? Fall is my favorite season, so I decided I needed to change my blog to match the season. So I now have a fall blog and I am posting Christmas cards.

These are two more cards I made for my open house. I intended to post sooner, but I keep having internet problems. Only the cable company tells me my internet is fine - it's slower than dial up right now, and that is when it is working.

Anyway, enough of my problems. I really like these cards but the colors in the picture are off. These cards was actually made with Mellow Moss card stock and it looks more like Kraft or Sahara Sand in the picture. The card also has a lot of sparkle on it. I added dazzling diamonds to the snow and the new shimmer paint from the Holiday Mini on the star, so it looks very festive in real life. (Click on it to enlarge it and get a better picture) It also uses the new ribbon from the Holiday Mini. I told you in the previous post that I tried to use new product on all the cards that I made for the Open House.

Sweet Centers

For my Open House, I tried to make at least one sample for each of the new items I had purchased whether it was a stamp set, ribbon, shimmer paints, punches, etc.

And one of the new sets I had purchased was the Sweet Centers stamp set along with the matching Sweet Treat Cups. So here is one of my samples using these two products. This card also uses one of the new In-colors - Melon Mambo - I used the cardstock and matching ribbon.

I also used the new stamp set Teeny Tiny Wishes and the modern label punch. Lots of new product in one small card.

And in case you can't tell, I filled the treat cup with little barretts that I got at the dollar store. There are a lot of things you can fill the treat cups with, just start looking around and you will get a ton of ideas.

Open House Cards

Here are the two cards that we made at my open house on September 3rd. The Get Well card is a case of a design that I have seen all over the place so I have no idea who to credit for it. The colors I used for the card are Soft Suede and More Mustard although in the picture it looks more like Chocolate Chip. I used the new SU embossing folder Elegant Bouquet and colored it with my very neglected SU chalks.

On the Halloween card I used the new set from the Holiday Mini - Pumpkin Patch - and I used the new

1 1/4" grosgrain ribbon Pumpkin Pie which is really nice.

I thought it would be hard to tie since it is such a wide ribbon but it wasn't hard at all, it's a really soft ribbon.

A Fun Evening

I just finished cleaning up from my Stampin' Up Open house. It was a lot of fun and I actually got to do a little bit of visiting.

I made quite a few cards over the last week or so. I was trying to come up with samples using a lot of the new things I had bought from the new catalog and the Holiday Mini, so I will be posting those projects over the next few days.

It's late and I'm off to bed to read for a little while, see you tomorrow.

Relay for Life Bear

You are probably getting tired of seeing bears, but my husband came up with this idea.

We made some pink bears and added the ribbons - some we did with pink (Breast Cancer Awareness) and some we did with purple (General Cancer Awareness). We are going to sell these bears for $10 and half of that will be given to the Relay for Life.

The second picture shows how they will be packaged.

Remember these are magnetic "paper dolls". The clothes can be taken off, you can even purchase extra outfits for your bears.

No Mistakes - Just a reason to embellish

Have you ever heard people say when it comes to cardmaking, that there is no such thing as a mistake, just more reasons to embellish?

Well this little bear gave me a reason to embellish. Actually my husband who was helping me did. He didn't have the magnet situated on the die correctly and part of this little shirt was cut off. It was very noticeable, so I tried to round off the shirt and just shorten it up a bit. Then she looked like one of those heavy guys on comercials where there bellies are hanging out the bottom of there t-shirts. So I decided to make it look like we did this deliberately, and I gave her a belly piercing. And wouldn't you know it, now the short shirts are going out and the long shirts are coming in. I'm always behind in the fashion world.

Another Build-a-Bear...

Here is another paper doll magnet that I created. This one is a boy. Check out his stone washed jeans. I made the jeans from a wall paper sample that I had.

My husband and I went to a paint store a couple of months ago looking for a particular paint to use on props for VBS. They had a display of wall paper and those little samples by it. So not really sure what I would do with the samples but knowing they would be useful for something I took several. By now my husband is used to this behavior. As a matter of fact when we went and ate lunch at Cheeseburgers in Paradise that same day, he got a stack of round coasters for me. I'm sure they will be just the thing I need - someday.

A Really Cool Project

Here is my really cool project! At least I think it is. This is a magnetic paper doll made with the new Build-A-Bear dies from Stampin' Up.

Stampin' Up has partnered with Build-A-Bear Workshops and Sizzix to come up with a line of dies and stamp sets that are now being offered in the new Holiday Mini Catalog.

In case you can't tell, that is one of the white tins you can buy in any craft shop that the magnet is attached to. All the clothes are also magnets, so you don't have to mess with those little tabs that come on paper dolls. And since this little bear is cut from magnet sheets, she should hold up pretty well.

I did this girl in our school colors - purple and gold - and put the CW on the front which stands for Casey-Westfield High School. If you didn't want a girl, you could just pull off the skirt, put on a pair of jeans, take off the flower and you have a little boy. Cute, huh?

Here is a picture of one "naked". It even has the little heart emblem on it.

Happy Bearthday Hydi!

Today we are having Hydi's first birthday party,

her birthday is actually on the 25th.

Hydi is doing really well now and they have been reducing her medication. She did have to have one of the hemangiomas on her bottom lasered, but other than that everything has went better than was expected.

I just received a BIG Stampin' Up order in on Thursday. I thought this would be my last order for the year, but now I'm thinking there are a few more things I need to get.

Anyway, part of my order was the new Build-a-Bear dies and stamp set that we are offering, so I decided to do Hydi's card with that stamp set. I apologize for the poor picture, we are leaving in just a little bit and it's to0 windy outside to take pictures so I took this one inside and it's not a very good picture. But you can really see all the shimmer on this card. I went over the dress, shoes and part of the gift bag with a Gelly Roll glaze pen. It's very sparkly in real life.

The other thing I made for Hydi was this gift bag. Again I used the Build-a-Bear dies and the new Designer Series Paper that goes with it. It's time for us to

go to the party so I will be back Monday with a very cool

It's been a while...

since my last post. Things have been pretty hectic at the Jenkins household.

We had VBS at our church August 3-7 and it was great. God blessed us with more kids than we planned for so we had to do some scrambling to get everything we needed, but God provided as always. We had 42 kids and about 20 adults and that's a lot of people to feed supper to each night. We are a small church out in the country so for us to have so many kids each night was a real blessing.

Of course the weeks before VBS were spent getting ready and then the last night of VBS my husband had to have a stint put in and so he was off work all last week. Add to that his son and granddaughter coming to visit and getting ready for Rob to go back to school, things have been pretty much chaos around here. Throw a day in of freezing corn (Thanks Terri) and you can see how my last month has been. Busy!

But Steve is back to work this week, all the company is gone and Rob has started her senior year today. I cleaned house yesterday and have errands to run today, but I'm hoping tomorrow if my internet cooperates, that I can start posting some projects again. I haven't hardly had a chance to play with my last order and I just put in another order today that will be here Thursday. I haven't even brought in my purchases from our new Joann's Fabric store that I bought a couple of weeks ago. They are still riding in the trunk of my car. But cleaning my stamp room is on my list of things to do today.

So thanks for hanging in there and I will be back with some projects this week.

Anniversary Gift Set

My husband and I got a last minute invitation to a surprise anniversary party. Since my husband took the call, I didn't get any details. He said we were to bring Hot Dogs and Buns, he wasn't sure if we were to bring a dessert too or not, he just said some of the ladies were also bringing dessert. Of course he doesn't ask any questions.

This is a party given to a pastor and his wife by their church and it's going to be a weiner roast. That's all I know. Sometimes when they have parties like this, they will tell you - no gift, just a card - sometimes they do have gifts. Since I wanted to be safe instead of sorry and totally embarrassed, I decided I needed to have a gift.

Now we got the phone call yesterday evening about 5:30. My daughters had been here for lunch that day, my house was a mess, and my grandson decided he didn't want to go home and take a nap, he wanted to stay here and take a nap with granny. So I didn't even get to start on this until about 9:00 last night because I had to put my stamp room back in order (long story short I had no power to any of my electrical outlets in just my stamp room and I had to take things out of cabinets so we could move them to check outlets).

So anyway here is what I came up with. I saw this box made on a Stampin' Up video. The box measures about 6.25 x 6.25 and is about 2.75 deep. I made the box with the retired paper Parisian Breeze and Chocolate Chip cardstock. I also used the border punch on mine which I think really adds to it.

I made the tag on top from the stamp set Baroque Motifs. I used the retired Baja Breeze and Not Quite Navy. The ribbon is not Stampin' Up, they don't sell this kind of ribbon anymore.

I hit the ribbon with my heat gun, which is a fun technique to do, and it just kind of curls up your ribbon. You have to be real careful not to burn all the way through the ribbon though.

And lastly, I made a card and matching envelope using the same colors: Baja Breeze, Not Quite Navy, and Chocolate Chip. The only thing I don't like is that I used Very Vanilla Cardstock to stamp on, and I only had Whisper White envelopes on hand, so they don't match. Hopefully that won't stand out to much.

When it came time to stamp the inside of the card I realized that I didn't have any anniversary sentiments other than "Happy Anniversary" and the one shown in the card. I'm definitely going to have to buy me some.

And for the gift itself, I made a tile with my Cricut and vinyl. I used the Chocolate Chip Vinyl sold by Stampin' Up and the tile can be bought at any place like Menard's or Lowe's. For some reason, I can't upload the tile on this post, so I will post it separately.
