Acrylic Wind Chimes
A few years ago, lots of people in the crafting world were on a wind chime trend. I also decided to give them a go and I bought several sets of chimes. The problem was I didn't like the way the chimes would hang. Most people were hanging them with fishing line and I just didn't care for that. The other issue was most people were buying metal shapes and I wanted to be able to cut my own shapes with my laser. But if I used a material called sublimation mdf there was the issue of it maybe not holding up in the weather and even if I used sublimation acrylic it might fade very quickly in the sunlight. So I just kind of gave up on them.
Fast forward a bit and last year I was at a laser conference and found a spray that I could use on the acrylic (which will hold up to the weather) that will keep the sublimated image from fading. Of course all items will fade in sunlight over time, but this spray should keep it from fading too quickly. So I decided to give the wind chimes another shot. I also found while I was reorganizing my stamp room some string (for lack of a better word) that was supposed to work well with wind chimes. So here is my first prototype!
As soon as we get some decent weather I will spray this wind chime with the UV protectant and hang it out on my front porch. I really love the look of sublimation acrylic and if the sun ever comes back out I will take a picture with the sun shining through it so you can see just how pretty it is. These pictures just don't do it justice. Hopefully soon we will be offering personalized wind chimes in whatever shape you like. Wouldn't that make a cool gift?
